NYSEF Welcomes Northrup as Director of Communications & Development
The New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) is pleased to announce Rebecca ‘Becky’ Northrup has recently joined its team as Director of Communications and Development. Northrup, a seasoned communications professional, will maximize communication and fundraising efforts across NYSEF’s disciplines and venues, expand annual appeals and donor participation, as well as steer NYSEF’s strategic plan initiatives.
Northrup, who most recently served as the Senior Director of Digital Marketing & Creative at Workshop – a digital marketing agency with offices in Lake Placid and Saratoga Springs, NY – led creative and business growth strategy for her clients to successfully accelerate brand engagement and awareness, broaden and elevate multi-venue events and initiatives, and execute PR efforts and digital strategies across platforms.
“Becky’s experience working in the digital marketing space along with her background in print journalism and PR, make her a tremendous asset to NYSEF,” stated Executive Director, John Norton.
Becky is a compelling storyteller who is passionate about finding ways for multi-disciplinary organizations like NYSEF to work together while delivering impactful results. We are excited for her to tell NYSEF’s story, promote our snow sports family and broaden our communications and fundraising efforts across the board,” added Norton.
Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Northrup grew up cross-country skiing with her family on wood skis with three-pin bindings. She attended Harding University, earned her bachelor’s in Print Journalism, and found her passion for narrative-driven storytelling. She later moved to the Adirondacks and parlayed her love of writing into a career in marketing.
“I’m incredibly excited to join the NYSEF team and I look forward to getting to know everyone better,” Northrup said. “I love building relationships and strengthening teams through consistent communication and sincere storytelling.”
Over her 14-year career at Workshop, Becky worked directly with many local, regional, and statewide organizations and businesses. She also served on the marketing team for Empire State Winter Games by coordinating media relations for the Torch Relay and broadening awareness of the multi-venue event to increase spectatorship. In the community, Becky has served on the board of directors for the Tri-Lakes Humane Society and has led their annual appeal for a number of years, consistently increasing annual giving year over year.
Northup will be working closely with Tiffany Van Etten, Special Events Coordinator, who joined NYSEF in the spring of 2022. “Tiffany is an incredible partner and I’m so grateful for her expertise, experience, and energy,” adds Northrup.
Northrup, who began in mid-July, is married to National Sports Academy (NSA), NYSEF alum, and former alpine coach, Tim Northrup. They live in Wilmington with their two children and enjoy mountain biking, skiing, and exploring the Adirondacks year-round.
