Try Ski Jumping at the Olympic Jumping Complex in Lake Placid This December and January

LAKE PLACID, NY (November 6, 2023) – The New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) announces new dates for its Learn to Fly program, offering local kids a chance to try out the sport of ski jumping for a day at the iconic Olympic Jumping Complex in Lake Placid.

Learn to Fly sessions will be held on December 13, 20, 30, and January 6.

“We want local kids to have a chance to try this sport that is so iconic in our region due to our Olympic heritage as well as the ski jump towers that are a constant presence in the skyline of our town,” says NYSEF Head Ski Jumping Coach Colin Delaney.

The December sessions will allow local kids the opportunity to try ski jumping and join the NYSEF program at a prorated registration fee if they want to continue to participate in the sport. Pre-registration is required. Register your athlete online at: https://bit.ly/3QHUrH3

Free Sessions will be held:

  • Wednesday (12/13/23) 3:15 pm-5 pm
  • Wednesday (12/20/23) 3:15 pm-5 pm
  • Saturday (12/30/24) 9am-11am
  • Saturday (1/6/24) 9am-11am

“Ski Jumping is an amazing sport that has the fun and freedom of flight, as well as self-empowerment for an athlete.,” Delaney said. “You’re the only one on the hill at the time, facing the intimidation of staring down the track and going for it.”

NYSEF received a grant from the North Elba Local Enhancement and Advancement Fund (LEAF) to support the purchase of youth ski jumping equipment to help get more kids involved in the sport. From specialized skis, boots, and bindings, to the ski jumping suits themselves, NYSEF is poised to welcome more local kids to the sport of ski jumping this year.
