Alpine Skiing of Empire State Games started with a Super G at Whiteface.
On Friday, January 31 the Alpine Skiing portion of Empire State Games started with a Super G at Whiteface. Athletes came from all over New York State and beyond to celebrate the Olympic region and ski fast! New to the first place podium this season was Northwood School (NWS) and NYSEF athlete, Norah Dempsey. Norah, a Saratoga Springs native, took part in NYSEF’s Winter Term program before starting NWS this year. When asked about her transition to NWS, she commented, “there is a great work and train balance, I am able to manage my time and stay on top of my work.”
After a minor hand injury in November, she was ready to end January on top of the podium. When asked about her preparation for the race, Norah said, “I had a really good day of training the day before and was prepared mentally…my coaches have been supportive, providing positive feedback that helped with today’s result.” Some goals for the season is to start to “control my GS skis and continue to improve overall.”
