Wilmington, NY – The New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) is proud to announce the appointment of Jeremy Transue as Alpine Women’s Head Coach. Transue will oversee the FIS women’s program at Whiteface (age 16 and older) with a focus on continued development and high-level performance.

Transue, born and raised in the Catskill Mountains of NY, is excited to soon be coaching in his home state. “I am thrilled to take on a leadership position within this already-talented team of professionals while contributing to the success of an organization so close to home,” he said.

No stranger in the alpine ski racing world and affectionately known as ‘Worm’, Transue began his skiing career on the slopes of Hunter Mountain. In 1997, he enrolled as a freshman at the Green Mountain Valley School (GMVS) in Waitsfield, VT. Upon graduating in 2001, Transue was immediately named to the U.S. Ski Team and steadily progressed through its ranks. A highlight of his career was winning the North American Cup Downhill Title in the 2007-2008 season, earning him World Cup starting rights for the following season.

Transue’s love of coaching started while he was still an athlete. He spent time working at various junior development camps between his prep programs. During this time, he developed a strong passion for working with and mentoring young athletes through their own careers. After 9 years on the U.S. Ski Team, Transue began his professional coaching career.

Over the past 10 years, Transue has served in various roles including U16 Alpine Coach and, most recently, U19 Men’s Coach at GMVS. During his tenure, he coached some of the program’s most successful athletes including former U.S. Ski Team members Drew Duffy and Jimmy Krupka. Beyond ski coaching, he also filled the role of technical director for the school’s theater program, coached soccer, and served as an advisor to several student-athletes. Although he notes it is bittersweet leaving his alma mater, Transue “is grateful for the guidance and opportunity that prepared me to take on this leadership role with NYSEF.”

“We’re quite pleased and very fortunate to have an individual with such experience as both a professional athlete and coach join our program,” said NYSEF’s Executive Director, John Norton.

NYSEF, in partnership with Northwood School, has made significant advancements in the last few seasons by bringing on established coaches including Patrick Purcell, Thomas Vonn and Terry DelliQuadri. “The addition of Worm will provide a boost for both NYSEF and Northwood Skiing,” says DelliQuadri. “We have a very strong group of women in that age group.”

“I couldn’t ask for a better coach to be joining the NYSEF/Northwood Team,” said Thomas Vonn. “We grew up skiing at Hunter Mountain, then both were on the U.S. Ski Team for a number of years. His knowledge, professionalism, and overall friendly demeanor will have a positive impact on the program.”

Additionally, the NYSEF program has reached new heights with the expansion of competitive snowsport programs at Belleayre Mountain, managed by NYSEF partner, the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA). NYSEF’s enrollment has grown to include nearly 600 alpine, freeride and nordic athletes across 5 different ORDA snowsport venues throughout New York State.

Transue, who will begin working with NYSEF this spring at ski camps in Norway and Chile, is “looking forward to making my stamp on NYSEF, a well-respected program that continues to raise the bar and provides athletes with top-notch, individualized coaching support.”

Off the hill, Transue enjoys playing golf and spending time with his wife (Olivia) and two sons (Hunter and Steele). Transue and his family are ready for outdoor adventures in the Adirondacks and are looking forward to making the Lake Placid area their new home.
