NYSEF Athletes and Alumni Make History at Nordic World Junior Championships
Lake Placid, NY
It was a great week for NYSEF athletes and Alumni at the FIS Nordic World Junior Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Championships. Current Northwood-NYSEF athlete Henry Loher notched a 21st place result in the Men’s normal hill Hs 100 competition on Wednesday night. That evening the U.S. was led by NYSEF Alum Tate Frantz, who was the top jumper in the qualifying round and narrowly missed notching a Jr. World Championship win by .4 of a point, earning the second silver medal in the last two years for the United States in this event.
On Friday night history was made in the men’s team competition where the United States earned its first ever team medal in international competition. This team was led by Frantz and featured 3 athletes with ties to NYSEF (Frantz, Loher, and Bryce Kloc). A tremendous result and great accomplishment for these athletes who are writing a new and exciting chapter in the history of U.S. Ski Jumping.
To close the week, Frantz led the U.S. once again in the mixed team competition, earning another historic medal for the U.S. In the Nordic Combined event NYSEF Winter Term athlete earned a 12th place finish in the women’s event with a blistering ski that propelled her up the rankings. Frantz and McKinnon will both head to the FIS World Nordic Ski Championships in Norway this week.
