Thirteen U16 NYSEF and Northwood athletes have qualified for the U16 Eastern Championships. The quota for NYSSRA is 12 men and 12 women. The U16 Eastern Region Championship – Ronnie Berlack Grand Prix will showcase the best U16 alpine ski racers in the East and local racers will be competing March 17-22 at Burke Mountain, VT.

Lake Placid’s Rowen Norfolk (Northwood) swept the Men’s races placing 1st in the SL, GS and SG races, February 28-March 1, at Hunt Hollow and Bristol Mountain and was named the U16 Men’s New York State Champion. For the women, Karleigh Hollister (NYSEF) completed all events used for scoring and named the U16 Women’s New York State Champion.

Teammates Joseph Galperin (NYSEF), Dominick DeGuardia (NYSEF), Lucas Brumm (NYSEF), Kieran Delay (NYSEF), Benjamin Poisson (NYSEF), Matthew Moeckel (NYSEF), and Cole Paton (NYSEF) were also in the top 12 and qualify.

Top 5 U16 Men’s podium highlights include:

Norfolk – 1st in SL, GS and SG

Brumm – 2nd in SL, 3rd in GS

Galperin – 2nd in SG, 5th in GS

DeGuardia – 2nd in GS, 3rd in SG

Delay – 3rd in SL, 4th in GS

Poisson – 4th in SG

Nora Dawood (Northwood), Kate Broderick (Northwood), Leah DeFilippo (NYSEF), and Macie Eisenhart (Northwood) also qualified for the U16 Eastern Region Championship.

Top 5 U16 Women’s podium highlights include:

Hollister – 1st in GS, 4th in SL and SG

Broderick – 3rd in SL

Dawood – 2nd in GS, 5th in SL

DeFilippo – 3rd in SG

Eisenhart – 5th in GS

Lake Placid’s Sonja Toishi did not compete in GS and SG due to an injury in the SL race, Anna Reynolds (NYSEF) is the first alternate.

Several athletes also qualified for U16 Eastern Finals that will take place at Mount Washington Valley, NH on March 25-29. Anna Reynolds (NYSEF), Margaret Cummings (NYSEF), Michaela Leonard (NYSEF), Maegan Byrne (NYSEF), MJ Prince (Northwood), Mallory Czimbal (NYSEF) and Julia Accordino (NYSEF), and Nathan Rodriguez (NYSEF) qualified.
