The New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) has announced that Beatty Schlueter will assume the role of Winter Term Program Director for the upcoming 2017/18 season. Most recently, Beatty has served as the Development Director and U10/12 Head Alpine Coach at NYSEF for nearly 5 years. A longtime alpine coach and certified teacher, Schlueter is looking forward to moving into a position which allows her to work even more closely with aspiring student-athletes.

Beatty takes the reins from Dave McCahill who, after four seasons with the Winter Term Program, has opted to enroll in a Graduate Program in Natural Resource Management at the University of Graz in Austria. The Winter Term program, which began in 2013, supports students in their home school curriculum while allowing the opportunity to train at Whiteface Mountain for upwards of 6 days per week during the winter months.

Originally from Leland, Michigan, Beatty has held a number of key positions in the ski racing world ranging from administration to coaching, teaching, and residential life. Upon graduating with an Education and Art degree from Colby-Sawyer College in New Hampshire, she coached and eventually led the Suicide Six alpine program in Vermont, eventually moving on to coaching and teaching positions at both the Okemo Mountain School and the Green Mountain Valley School in Vermont. Most recently, Schlueter served as Head Women’s coach at the National Sports Academy before assuming the Development Director position at NYSEF, where she also served as the head U10/U12 alpine coach.

“I’m excited to take over the extremely successful program that Dave, along with so many members of our staff, has helped grow throughout the last four years. Teaching, coaching and working directly with student-athletes are the reasons I started down this career path and while I’ve enjoyed my time as Development Director, I’m excited to move back into a position of working closely with athletes that want to push their training to the next level.”

“Beatty’s experience as a dorm parent, coach, teacher and administrator makes her a perfect fit for our Winter Term Program,” says John Norton, NYSEF Executive Director.  “Our flagship program, the Winter Term has served aspiring junior athletes at NYSEF to the fullest–  allowing them to get enhanced training volume while maintaining the highest academic standards. Dave, along with his team of tutors and support staff have done a tremendous job over the last four years — we’re extremely grateful for his service. We’re excited for the next chapter of the program and I am confident that Beatty will lead the program in a great direction.

“It’s been such a thrilling experience helping the Winter Term Program to grow,” writes McCahill. “We began in 2013 with 9 students, and last season saw 36 student-athletes participate in terms of a month or more. Our relationship with the Olympic Training Center is stronger than ever, our team of tutors and coaches is second to none, and I’m confident that with Beatty leading the charge, our Winter Term will continue to offer our athletes world-class opportunities.”

“The Winter Term Program is a key part of the development process for kids aspiring to be elite athletes,” says NYSEF Board of Directors Chairman, Greg Harden. “Nothing is more important than an enthusiastic and qualified staff. Beatty is the perfect person to lead the Winter Term Program and her leadership will allow us to improve and grow the program.”
