There were some great results from the Junior Team where we witnessed up and coming athlete, Sophia Kelting (Saranac Lake) make her mark with consistent podium finishes at the Gore Junior National Qualifier

When asked about her training to date, she answered “my coaches taught me to focus before a race…I found that your focus can make or break your race.” When asked about improvements this season, Sophia answered, “I have been working on my technique and will continue to do so, but I feel that it has improved drastically from last year and now need the strength to go along with it.” Some of Sophia’s short term goals for this season are ”to make top 20 at a few Eastern Cups and top 30-40 at Junior Nationals.” Her long term goal is “to ski in college…and if I continue to train hard, I would love to compete in the World Cup.” Great Job, Sophia!

NYSEF Nordic have the unique opportunity to train and race with the future generation— our XC Devo programs! Soon the Devo crew will be traveling and racing with the NYSEF Junior Team.

Thank you to NYSEF parent, Achilles Kogiantis for taking photos of the athletes during their events. The photo album can be found here.
