NYSEF Nordic alum, Scott Schulz leads his team to a win at Maine Carnival!

Schulz, Lyons Lead ‘Cats to Win at Maine Nordic Carnival

WATERVILLE, Maine –Jasmine Lyons (Ottawa, Ontario) and Scott Schulz (Lake Placid, N.Y.) each won individual races for the second straight day to lead the University of New Hampshire Nordic ski team to Saturday’s convincing 546-334 victory against Colby College at the EISA Maine Nordic Carnival at Quarry Road.
Lyons won the women’s 5K classic in 15 minutes, 27.8 seconds to earn 50 points. Lucinda Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) finished 7.1 seconds later for second place and 47 points, and Dariya Kuznetsova (Pervouralsk, Russia) collected 41 points by finishing seventh (16:02.4). The Wildcat women defeated the Mules, 138-44.
Non-point qualifying ‘Cats with impressive showings included Georgianna Fischer (Bozeman, Mont. / third place, 15:36.8), Schuyler Michalak (Peterborough, N.H. / fourth place, 15:40.0) and Eleonora Olsmats (Djursholm, Sweden / fifth place, 15:55.8).
Schulz claimed the men’s 10K classic triumph and 50 points by virtue of his finish time of 26:37.4. Seth Wyatt (Bozeman, Mont.) finished in fifth place (39 points / 27:41.0), and Jakob Velle (Oslo, Norway) earned 37 points by virtue of his seventh-place result (28:27.8). The Colby men edged UNH, 132-126.
LOOKING AHEAD
•The UNH Nordic team is scheduled to compete in the Saint Lawrence Nordic Carnival on Friday, Feb. 12, at Mt. Van Hoevenberg. The Wildcat alpine team is set for the Burke Mountain Alpine FIS U races Friday, Feb. 12, and Saturday, Feb. 13.
