While most families and athletes were busy with Empire State Games in and around Lake Placid over this weekend (February 2-4), the U14 alpine skiers were training and racing at Gore Mountain (in North Creek). The U14 athletes races in the Excelsior Cup East Super Giant Slalom (SG). This race was one of the first SG events of the season.

In the Men’s Division, NYSEF athletes secured the majority of the top 10:

Rowen Norfolk (Lake Placid, NY) got first with a time of 1:05.21
Joseph Galperin (Great Neck, NY) got 2nd place with a time of 1:06.13
Cole Paton (Clifton Park, NY) got 3rd place with a time of 1:06.85
Brooks Dahl (Skillman, NJ)  got 4th place with a time of 1:07.76
Benjamin Poisson (Carignan, Québec) placed 5th with a time of 1:08.56
Nathan Rodriguez (Gansevoort, NY) placed 6th with a time of 1:09.24
Matthew Moeckel (Gansevoort, NY) placed 7th with a time of 1:09.34
Jeffrey Long (Gansevoort, NY) placed 9th with a time of 1:09.99
Ryan Brodie (Queensbury, NY) placed 10th with a time of 1:10.14

Sonja Toishi (Lake Placid, NY) placed 1st with a time of 1:05.53
Emma Reynolds (Sudbury, MA) placed 2nd with a time of 1:07.56
Anna Reynolds (Rowayton, CT) placed 3rd with a time of 1:07.57

Karleigh Hollister (Old Forge, NY) placed 5th with a time of 1:10.09
Kate Broderick (Lake Placid, NY) placed 7th with a time of 1:11.28

Mckenna Fromm (Lake Placid, NY) placed 8th with a time of 1.11.13
Cilla Nee (Westport, CT) placed 9th with a time of 1:11.40

Several of the athletes in the top 10 are in NYSEF’s Winter Term Program. This program allows aspiring student-athletes the opportunity to pursue their athletics at an advanced level while continuing remotely in their home school’s academic curricula, providing an avenue to excel academically and athletically.
