Lake Placid, N.Y., June 13, 2017 – Northwood School is pleased to welcome its new Director of Alpine Skiing, Terry DelliQuadri. DelliQuadri was selected following a national search, where his experience, vision, and impact on students over his many years of coaching set him apart from the deep pool of applicants. He comes to Northwood from the Ski and Snowboard Club in Vail, Colo. where he was most recently head coach of the program’s U14 team and oversaw 60 athletes and eight coaches. In addition to being an USSA certified coach, he has been teaching level 100, 200 and 300 coaching seminars for the past 12 years as well as instructing at USSA’s National Academy. While at the Ski and Snowboard Club Vail, DelliQuadri was named Coach of the Year for all disciplines for the 2014-15 season.
“Terry comes to Northwood with a passion to teach kids, to make them better on and off snow, and help them navigate the high school experience. We are excited about the expertise Terry brings with him and his resources to attract new students, while motivating and challenging our current students to reach their full potential,” said Athletic Director Gino Riffle “Terry was an elite skier, and one does not get there without being competitive. This, along with his tremendous coaching abilities will shape our program for the years to come.”
Head of School Michael Maher added, “Terry met the highest criteria of our search committee. His integrity, national reputation and reach, extensive recruiting network, and the respect of coaches and athletes worldwide make him the perfect fit for Northwood’s elite alpine ski program.”
A 1988 graduate of Dartmouth College, DelliQuadri is an accomplished athlete himself, having captained the Big Green squad for two seasons, was named a seven-time All-American, medaled in the World University Games and raced on the World Cup circuit. He began his coaching career at Dartmouth while racing for three seasons on the U.S. Pro Ski Tour.
“I am really excited about the opportunity to lead the alpine program at Northwood School — it’s a school with a strong history of elite athletics, not only in skiing. I am honored to be a part of that legacy and work to bring the ski program to a more prominent position,” said DelliQuadri. “Northwood also has a great partnership with the NYSEF program and I am looking forward to building upon the strengths that already exist within our shared programs,” said DelliQuadri.
NYSEF Director John Norton added, “We’re thrilled to have Terry join our fantastic team here in Lake Placid. NYSEF and Northwood School have continued to strengthen our partnership and Terry joins a team of highly qualified, passionate members. With a mountain like Whiteface and the training and racing opportunities that ORDA helps make possible, the sky is the limit for alpine ski racers in Lake Placid!”
DelliQuadri will be joined in Lake Placid by his wife Urte, and their children Esther Rose (17), Cisco (15), and Peppi (12). “My whole family is looking forward to the move and getting involved in the community.”
