Meet Paul Van Slyke!
Meet Paul Van Slyke! If you do not see Paul around NYSEF, he is usually on the racecourse as the Chief of Race. Paul got involved with ski racing as a junior athlete competing for Woods Valley and continued to compete in college at Paul Smith’s. When asked what motivated him to work with snowsport programs like NYSEF, he said “It was natural, it was my passion. I started working at NYSEF in 1986 as a coach at Whiteface, then was hired in 1987 to run the newly formed program at Gore.” Paul’s work in skiing has offered great rewards and opportunities from traveling around the world to officiating the Olympic Winter Games, World Ski Championships, World Cup events and much more. When asked about his work with our 2019 Hall of Fame Inductee, Horst Weber, he said, “working with and for Horst has taught me a great deal in how to operate, be professional, stern yet fair, honest and cooperative and to share the passion with the youth and families within our organization. Horst provided the opportunity and flexibility to become involved with the ski community at large. It is fair to say that he had a vision of where it may take me.”Last not not least, Paul represents the sport we love as the Vice Chairman of the US Ski & Snowboard Alpine Sport Committee within the USA and works as an Alpine Safety Expert for the Kelly Brush Foundation. He also is an entrepreneur running several small businesses. Thank you, Paul for supporting our sport and NYSEF!
