NYSEF ALUM, BEATRIX LEVER WINS THE LADIES’ SUPER G RACE AT CANADIAN ALPINE SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS!

Mont-Édouard, Que. (March 24, 2019) – Climbing on top of the podium was 20 year-old Beatrix Lever (Club de courses Mont Cascades) with a time of 1:07:51. Lever was nominated to participate at the 2019 World Junior Championships earlier in February. This is her season-best result, her first podium this winter in any race circuit she has been racing on.

“Conditions were not what I was expecting but I believed in my plan. I felt confident crossing the finish line, but I thought I could have pushed my line more in some areas. I’m really happy about my result today”, said Lever who also won the U18 super-G National Championships in 2015, wearing the exact same bib number (6).

Due to changing weather conditions, the schedule for the first races of the 2019 National Alpine Championships was revised. Races planned on Saturday were postponed or cancelled and men’s super-G and alpine combined events that were to take place on Sunday are now postponed to Monday.

The only race held on Sunday was the ladies’ super-G, under very difficult conditions; organizers, volunteers, and racers contended with blowing snow, wind and poor visibility. The race was put on hold on several occasions and volunteers and coaches worked hard to remove the fresh snow accumulating on the course.

Rounding out the podium alongside Lever was Claire Timmermann (Banff Alpine Racers) in second place, and the bronze was won by Olivia Carrier (Skibec Alpin – Club de ski Stoneham). Carrier was injured for the most part of the season, this is a promising comeback.
