Pavla Berry joins the New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) at Whiteface as a new coach for the U16 alpine program.

Berry, a former coach for NYSEF-Gore, has coached in the West Mountain program for the last three seasons. A successful ski racer and former member of the Czech National Ski Team, Berry was named Czech National Champion in Slalom as a J3 and raced in two World Junior Championships and three World University Games. She attended Sierra Nevada College where she raced and helped her team win the USCSA Nationals three years.

“We are looking forward to being with the NYSEF community this winter,” Berry said. “I have always loved the mountains and community around Lake Placid.”

Berry got her start coaching summer camps in Mount Hood while in college, then went on to coach J3s at Vail’s Ski and Snowboard Club. She is a U.S. Ski & Snowboard Level 100 certified coach.

“Pavla brings a wealth of knowledge and experience back to NYSEF that will help our athletes progress on and off the slopes,” said Executive Director, John Norton. “We’re looking forward to her and her family joining our experienced team at Whiteface.”

In addition to coaching, Berry will assist with NYSEF’s Winter Term residential program. Berry is also a licensed psychotherapist with a practice based in Saratoga Springs, NY. She provides psychotherapy services focusing on mind and body connection to address mental health needs and improve performance outcomes.

“Pavla’s wealth of knowledge as a coach and mom of ski racers, as well as her perspective as a psychotherapist in performance and mental health, make her an incredible addition to NYSEF’s Winter Term program,” said Winter Term Director Beatty Schluteter.

Berry’s two daughters, Klaudie and Katerina, will join the Winter Term program as U16 and U14 alpine athletes, respectively.
