Skier cross and boarder cross: Empire State Winter Games
NYSEF athletes had some great results at Empire State Games in the skier cross and boarder cross events that took place on Friday, January 31. Skier cross and boarder cross are a part of freestyle skiing and riding because it incorporates terrain features traditionally found in freestyle like bumps, rollers and banks. It consists of a time trial, a knockout series and finishes with final rounds that determine the winners.
NYSEF-Gore athlete, Hunter Goodwin, a 14 year old from Saratoga Springs placed first for his division (14 and under boys). Hunter said he “felt nervous but excited to race.” When asked about his training, he answered, “we train hard at Gore and we competed in races at Belleayre where I am placed 1st and 2nd.” It is easy to say Hunter gained confidence in January based these results! Some of his goals for the season are to “make Nationals in Colorado and race well at the Rev Tour this week.”
The Goodwin family had another member of their household on the podium on Friday, Dakota. Dakota placed 2nd for her division (15 and over women).
Both Hunter and Dakota were joined by many NYSEF athletes. Top results are below:
